After a very solid morning packing the trailer and racing the cleaners to get out of our cabin we left Alice at about 1. Lunch was in the car as we hit the Tanami for as long as we could go.
Pretty uneventful, pretty boring, some decent corrugations especially after the last fuel which was in a pretty intense township a bit off the road. There was a ‘women’s police truck’ paddy wagon being driven around by a very frightening looking lady, not quite sure of the purpose of the women’s truck but didn’t want to stick around to find out.
Dark started closing in so we stopped for a trucker stop ham & cheese wrap dinner. Hardly anyone else on the road, not that many roos or cows, but at one point we’re pretty sure we narrowly missed a Cassowary! We kept missing all the WikiCamp roadside camps and after missing a few more we realised they were just drains other people had pulled off the road and named it after themselves. Matty kept on driving and we passed a massive mine and then right through a bushfire, got closer and closer to the border where our campground book actually had a marked rest stop- even this we drove straight past as it was literally a turnaround bay on side of road. Only evidence of others was some random toilet paper. We pulled up for the night at 11:30, didn’t bother with the awning or unhitching, straight to bed!
