While in Alice Springs the Masters Games were held, as we were between housesits, we decided to volunteer to help with the games. Garry was packing backpacks, for volunteers and competitors alike, for the first couple of days, then was driving buses. Wendy was operating the telephone bookings, booking teams transport to and from venues. The above photo is one of the teams participating in the opening ceremony parade.
The first day a team captain rang, ordered a bus to take the team to one of three cricket venues. When they arrived there was nobody there, The driver asked if they were at the correct place, answer was affrimative. The bus left to transport other teams. About 20 minutes later, the team captain at the cricket rang, wanting to be picked up and taken back to accommodation, wrong venue, wrong day. Whenever this captain rang to organise transport, from then on, he was asked if he was sure he had the right day and venue, running joke in the transport section, he went along with it.
Ther were quite a few different sports being played and different venues to be transported to and from.
