We are Sailing
Today was about seeing some more of this very scenic area of Italy. We decided to catch the hop on hop off ferry around the "Middle Lake" . This area is Bellagio, Menaggio, Cadenabbia Tremezzina, and Lenno.
The ferry service is very good, and they run at very frequent intervals. We initially took the ferry to Menaggio. It was great to be out on the water again. Moving away from the islands helps put things into perspective. You see its full beauty. We only checked out the main area of Menaggio, and it too is very pretty. It had a great little suspended walkway out over the lake. To see the area some more, we took a Train Ride to Lenno, which meant we went through the towns of Cadenabbia, and Tremezzina, before we finally stopped at Lenno.
The train was only a toy train that ran on the roads. Mind you, the driver didn't mess around, we were fairly hooning through the streets! However, doing it this way meant we could see a lot more quicker, than doing each stop on the ferry.
There are some very big expensive villas in this area, overlooking Lake Como.
By the time we had done the trip to Lenno, it was well after lunch, so we found a little restaurant beside the water and had a nice meal and a couple of drinks. Dianne had lots of fun feeding the ducks and seagulls in the water beside her. (Lake Como is freshwater, so there are lots of ducks)
After an hour or so, it was time for the girls to get an ice cream, then a short time later we boarded our train back to Cadenabbia. Once there we had a short waited before the car ferry took us back to Bellagio.
As it was our last day in Bellagio, the girls wanted to go and check the shops out more thoroughly. Brian and I thought that was just the excuse we needed to go down to the pub we found yesterday, and have a few beers.
After a couple of hours, we turned up at the apartment, only to find the girls were back. It seems things were just a little too expensive even for them. They had enough of window shopping.
It was going to be an early start tomorrow, so getting everything ready was the priority. By the time we had done this, and had a little nap it was time for tea. Cheryl found this great place in the lane next to our apartment. We arrived for tea around 9.30pm. (which is normal over here) The place was packed, which is always a good indication of the quality of the meal. It proved correct. The meal (whilst a little expensive) was excellent, as was the wine.
It was quite late when we got to bed, the alarms were set for 6am, so we could continue our trip onto Venice.
