We are Sailing
We were up nice and early this morning as we had to be at the train station to work out how to get to Como. We purchased the tickets yesterday, but we still weren't quite sure how it all was going to happen. It all came together, and before we knew it we were on the Regional Train to Como. The trip was good, and the train was very good.
Como was only 40 minutes away, and the bus to Bellagio was already waiting. We purchased the tickets and were on our way. The ride took around and hour, and the driver obviously trained on the Ferrari simulator as well. He was a very good driver, throwing this big bus around a very narrow and winding road. He obviously has done it many times, and knew where vehicles could pass, the blind corners etc. Cyclists also do Kamikaze training on this road as well, (a traditional Italian sport) weaving in and out cars, and somehow fitting between the bus and the guard rails on the road.
The drive is very scenic with Lake Como visible all the way. It is a very large lake, but lake Argyle is approx. 5 time its size. There are many settlements built around it, and two large roads run either side of it.
We arrived at our destination on time, and had a milkshake at the local café opposite the bus terminus. This gave us time to ponder an action plan. Now it was time to find our Air BNB. It is a small town, so it should be a cinch. Brian had his google maps. (Yep, that theory went out the window). Our street we were to go to was a very small street, perched about 140 steps up the back blocks of town. Google maps was not connecting to anything, so we had to ask locals for direction. Not so easy when they don't speak English, and the street is an obscure one. Finally we tracked down where we were to leave our luggage until the unit was ready. We had a couple of hours to kill, so we went and did some site seeing, and then had lunch at a small place on the foreshore over looking the lake.
For those of you who haven't been up this end of the world before, this place is certainly worth a visit. Perched on the edge of Lake Como, high up in the mountains of Northern Italy. Very clean, very picturesque, and a look back into the 40/50s. Like other areas of Italy they have done a great job of preserving their buildings, but making them completely modern inside. I have been writing this blog, sitting on a chair, looking out over a small balcony, into the hills of Lake Como. People would pay a fortune for a view such as this.
We got into our unit, and it is on the 3rd floor. There is no lift, so getting the bags up was a bit tedious, especially the one with the kitchen sink in it.
We all decided to have a rest, because the day had been quite hectic.
After our nanna nap, we went for a walk to the far end of the town, again walking through some very scenic country. By the time we had done that, and got back again it was time for tea. We found a small place on the way back, and had a very cheap but good meal.
Tomorrow we had planned to catch the hop on hop off ferry to the other towns in the middle section of the lake.

Jan I'm so jealous I can't believe how wonderful Italy is. We are going to Umbria next year in May for a month. Arrevaderchi (sorry about the spelling) xx
