We are flying home after two weeks of eating, eating and did I mention we ate a lot? Italy is a beautiful country to eat in but there is so much to love. In between meals of the local meats, cheeses, pastas and pastries with cappuccino we spent our time exploring and appreciating the historical sites like the old stone churches and their grand frescos and mosaics. We immersed ourselves in the culture with its art, music and food and figured that we could definitely adopt some of these things into our life at home. Or we could move here...
The people made our trip extra amazing. The kindness and generosity and the feeling of family in some of the places we stayed was so lovely. The Italians love to share their food, their wine and their stories. They are passionate and we experienced this with more than just a few of our hosts, but also in the wineries, markets, restaurants and cafes.
The beauty of the places we went to will remain in our memories. The rolling hills of Tuscany, the azure blue waves in Cinque Terre, the ancient streets and ruins of Rome, the waterways of Venice, and the funky streets of Bologna. This was an incredible trip!
We return home with 11 years of marriage under our belts as we celebrated our anniversary here. And with all the places we've travelled while married, Italy is one of our favourites! We can see ourselves returning again and again. There is so much to see that leaves us wanting more, so on our next trip we would love to visit the south with its little beaches and towns, as well as the cities of Sicily and Napoli. Or to the north to see the lakes and Dolomite mountains. Oh the places we could go!
For now we return home with incredible pictures, great memories and a few souvenirs of the trip. We are ready for what awaits us at home. A busy summer ahead with school, camp for Chris and a new job for Skye. Thank you Italy for giving us a break and getting us ready for what lies ahead. Ciao!
