Yesterday did a drive to the dams, Serpentine, Gordon and Franklin, not far from here but spent a lovely couple of hours exploring, truly beautiful. The Gordon is down as it runs into the Franklin but still majestic scenery in the wilderness out here. Surely they have not explored every spot in these hundreds of kilometres of mountains.
The Franklin Dam damn it is huge and powerful looking. Wally did the climb down to walk upon the wall and some great photos from there but just could not show the vastness of it all. I of course started talking to some strange woman who came from Oatley so we gossiped away whilst the men exerted energy, good plan I thought.
Anyway after that exploration we returned to the Wilderness Lodge for lunch on a balcony overlooking the lakes on a stunning afternoon...bliss. Wandered around and then spent a quiet
afternoon lazing, someone even had a Pa nap as this fresh pure air is a killer for the lungs and he had done some really heavy breathing coming up those stairs.
Wednesday - more driving to mountains and dams far and wide. Drove east 33kms where the turnoff was supposed to be, no who would believe maps, was actually 43 and when picking
dirt tracks it is easy to get the wrong one and go into nowhere as we have done a couple of times. Those that love my other half would know he just loves picking a track and lets see where this goes....erchhh I hate those ones give me a good sign post anyday. Speaking of which our GPS told us to turn right into Strathgordon on the way here yesterday, luckily a good signpost said to continue as this spot was where the original town was that was last lived in
around the 60's nothing there but roads with kerbing and bush so much for updated internet info.
So today we visited the Edgar and Scott's Peak Dams - damn they were not a patch on yesterdays but still very beautiful mountains surrounding us. Lunch was in a bush picnic spot, on our own, the only sound we could hear were the blow flies but that is the price you pay in Aussie bush. We set out to return to our lodgings with a stop at Ted's Beach which was
a thought of an engineer working on the Dam project back in the whenever and he decided it would bring in tourism for swimming and boating... well beautiful but it would have to be very hot for the former and the latter superb for kayaking and fishing etc. All the water we have seen is Button Grass colour as in a good deep cuppa black tea but still is so pure. Actually where we are staying they say the water is fine to drink but as it goes in a glass it is pure white then slowly clears, I am now trying to stay clear of it as I had a headache steadily developing for over 24 hrs now and don't quite think my kidney can filter all those minerals (ps on a later note a sign in the office on checkout said not to drink the water as they had a sewerage problem - nice to notify the already staying tourists who dont visit the office except to check out). Oh well, into Hobart and civilisation tomorrow although we will hate it. This has been quite blissful and relaxing even for my wonderful energiser bunny.
Love to anyone who is interested in this ramble that will finally get downloaded tomorrow hopefully.xx
