So another day not starting very well. We did our usual and were out the door by 9am, no matter how we pack up we are in a rut of a nine am departure for a long day of exploring wild inaccessible areas and beaches before heading to Strahan. Well today the intrepid Fonz didn't want to go anywhere particularly with us. Flat battery again, so we got out the expensive jump starter purchased in Vic on the way down here and has helped another tourist in Ulverstone but would it start our car ...nooooo not charged enough. Battery charger enlisted to assist nup needs time that one. The boat captain (also owner of villas in which we stayed) from yesterday bought his car over and tried both his batteries to jump start nup again. So he left his jump starter with us and we had two hooked up and after an hour it started and so in we jumped and drove and drove and drove so we could charge our battery.
We decided we couldn't do the stops we wanted as not worth the problems so we drove over 120kms (2.5hrs) of dirt road towards Corinna where we very hesitantly stopped the car and went to the pub for lunch. The drive in had been quite picturesque with mountains and rainforest and plains of burnt out scrub and the trees are surviving and the regrowth looks beautiful. Corinna is just a town with half a dozen houses, a caravan park and a pub and a punt across the river. So after a discussion on how to get on the punt (please see pic and this is what we did) we had a nice steak sandwich and tentatively boarded the punt for our 5minute $25 ride to the other side....hmmmm captive tourists have to pay up or go 150 kms to get around to Zeehan and then onto Strahan. Parked again to unpack into our cabin then found a servo that luckily sold batteries, just as well it was losing charge again after 4 hrs of driving. We then did a drive out to Macquarie Harbour - Hells Gate but couldn't quite get there by car but did another 25 kms of dirt, I am exhausted and I just sit there and look at the view, feel rather grotty and dusty though as it is white grave and it is everywhere. So to make ourselves feel better we have booked tomorrow on a cruise on Macquarie harbour in gold class seats for the day. Have done a similar one previously but not in the gold class. Scenery today was great but tomorrow will be better I am sure.
Love us xxxx
