Monday - we awoke to a cloudy miserable day but we were just doing driving so wasn't too bad. Unfortunately we had to leave our lovely accommodation at Ridgeway but time is marching on and we need to head north. Left Hobart, for a 230km drive, by 9 and headed up towards Triabunna again and then further on where our host Andrew had advised ice cream at Coles Bay and then great fish'n'chips at Bicheno and you know when you say ice cream to Wally he will find it no matter what. Just a little shed on the side of the road far far away from anything, well Bicheno was 10kms up the road but we did have to stop. I reminded him it was 10 minutes till we would be eating lunch but he thought that was totally irrelevant so a strawberry/raspberry combo was inhaled with him groaning in ecstasy. Onwards we went to Bicheno and found The Gulch, another unassuming shed but decided on Stripey Trumpeter, calamari and chips for our lunch with a fresh coastal breeze out on concrete tables, quite classy - no but very tasty. Onwards towards Scamander for our next thee nights to a little cabin, quite unlike our previous bit of bliss but it will do.
Tuesday - headed out to explore on another cloudy day unfortunately but we have had a good run so far. Wally found lots of dirt tracks out to beaches and up mountains but we arrived at St Helens where we coffee'd and bought a few specials to share with special people. Then we headed west to Pyengana and The Pub in the Paddock for our lunch. Enjoyed really good pork spare ribs and him pork chops and then went out and said hello to next weeks lunches, they grunted at us of course. Then a visit to Pyengana Cheese shop for tastings where we found a cheese we particularly liked. Up into a mountain to visit the Blue Tier but it required walking when we arrived and so we bypassed as we were running out of time. Back to St Helens where we headed out to Bay of Fires and Binalong Bay. Took a wrong turn and didn't go up the correct road to Bay of Fires but the sun was not out so was rather disappointing looking at what can be magnificent colours in the rocks but we have been here before so we just stayed at Binalong and then did many dirt roads to try and get some good shots of the beautiful sands and water but the council deemed it not possible by making roads impassable. Oh well back to the cabin and we will see where he takes me tomorrow.
Love xxx
