Another two days of glorious sunshine and warmth for mid March. Yesterday we spent time getting to Salamanca markets because someone thought he could park close to the markets...hah as if...so eventually we parked in city car park for $6 for the day and walked. We did not buy anything except food, my goodness where was my brain, oh yes I remember I had my dearest one with me so we all know how that is. Anyway we had a wallaby burrito, very nice and then tempura battered mushrooms - delicious, a salmon sausage on pide - extememly tasty and a scallop pie - bit ho hum. We do share all these things and over the course of some hours and then just did a wander of the harbour then back to the car. A trip up to Mt Wellington to check out the view on a day with no clouds and rain which we have had previously. The trip up there is slightly hairy with cars going both ways and bikes and walkers etc but well worth the stunning view of the harbour and surrounds. We purchased half a kilo of tassie scallops for our dinner and Wally excelled with a curry of them on rice, for $20 absolutely better than any restaurant could do. Difficult to buy fresh fish anywhere in this town but this was so preferable anyway. So another day ended beautifully.
Sunday - up again and out on the road exploring this time down to the south of Hobart around the Cygnet area. We went on roads less travelled by the average tourist and found some extraordinary views of the river and islands around. Stopped at Cygnet markets and heh guess what we ate again. Thoroughly enjoying a vanilla custard tartlet that was superb, nothing like you would think. This one stall holder I could have bought one of everything he had, so very different. We also purchased a slow braised goat pie with spices which we are keeping for tomorrow. He had breads made from brown rice and some fabulous stuff. We then ended up having coffee in a cafe and having a date, nut and chocolate torte - oh my goodness bliss even for me who doesn't go for those kind of things usually. Wally upset cause I shared, gosh he loves me. Then to finish off some vegetarian dumplings - really tasty. That was our lunch etc but it was only 11 am. I am now starving at 5:45 and he is wanting me to finish typing so he will cook. We have just talked to our host for the last 1.5 hrs, delightful young man with an eight year old daughter and he works full time, fathers full time and runs this airb-n-b beautifully. Such a great place to stay, highly recommend this one. We had a fabulous day but no photos but some great views and memories. We did also stop at Grandvewe Cheesery for a purchase of our very favourite sheep cheeses as well as some mutton chorizo. My goodness when will it end. Our host has told erkits about a great icecream shop on our way out tomorrow as well as he says the highest of high fish'n'chips, and he says he is a fish'n'chip expert. Trouble is our timing for lunch is not great before our arrival at Scamander for the next three nights.
