Arrival at Lennox Heads on Wednesday after a stop at a lovely café in Alstonville where we enjoyed again a piece of fig and date cake with a taster of caramel and macadamia tartlet, really nice coffee also. The day was rather grey but we set up with a magnificent view of the lake and headed off into the shops for some lunch. Found a café with very nice healthy wraps and baguettes so these were enjoyed and then back for a lazy afternoon. Buga, we got back and two huge 31 foot motorhomes, with car trailers had parked in front of us and completely blocked out our view, oh well they may leave before we go, hah they didn't.
Thursday we headed off to Evans Head to meet up with another of Wally's cousins, Narelle and husband Tim, spent a number of hours with them and then lunch at an old church at Broadwater where the sugar mills blot the landscape. Nice lunch though of chorizo bruschetta and a pulled pork wrap. Friday was a visit to Betty, next cousin, in Casino for a number of hours and then lunch in a Japanese spot, very nice and some general shopping. Saturday after a magnificent breakfast at Three Pig Farm at Ewingsdale near Byron where we enjoyed spanner crab scambled eggs and a mushroom concoction we then purchased a famous Portuguese tart and scroll for afters prior to one of Wally's drives into bushland at the back of Uki, Nimbin and so forth. Lots of flood damage on the sides of roads and one road closed completely, of course we wanted to go down that one. Lunch at Bangalow of really nice burgers whilst watching at least 40 kombis driving past. Home to our van to enjoy our arvo tea of tarts and so forth. I may not eat for a month after this trip. Sunday was spent travelling up to Ashmore in Qld to visit Lionel and Jenny and nearly all the family gathered for lunch at Benowa Tavern, so great to see them all together, Trev is avoiding us as this is the second or third time we have been to visit and he is always busy.
The weather has been grey and raining except for Saturday and then hot on Sunday in Qld, lots of rain and very heavy overnight again. Packed this morning in wetness again and drove the 100 kms southwards to Iluka with a stop at Woodburn for coffee and a scallop pie, what a combination. We are right on the riverside and although the day is still grey and cloudy we have a pod of dolphins frolicking in the river in front of us, been there for at least the last hour, delightful. Lunch was very fresh fish, calamari and thai fish cake and chips from the co-op and now an afternoon of catching our breath and doing nothing for a change. People in the next van are from Shellharbour, small world as always.
And so to the end of this piece for now, not interesting but for our memories only.
