Backpack Party!!
Well hello from Peru everybody!!! How are you all??
I have landed safe and well in Peru after finally accurately checking out from Buenos Aires (sigh of relief!).After also causing Mum and Paul a major panic attack, and a series of frantic emails exclaiming NOOOOO!!! DONT LEAVE BUENOS AIRES YOU FOOL!!!!!hehehe.
I also succesfully managed to navigate my way around Buenos Aires airport, too, in plenty of time...I arrived 4 hours before my flight "just in case" of any possible mishaps....after all, I know what I am like, and anything was possible....hehehe.
I did have a bit of a problem at check in though, because the guy behind the counter kindly advised me to remove my sleepin bag from the top of my backpack, as it was almost certain that it would have been "nicked" otherwise....problem was, I had tied it on soo...well, that it took me about 15 minutes stood there at the desk, with a queue of irate and impatient people stood behind me waiting to check in for a flight that was actually leaving soon!! hahaha. I got it off, though and lugged it around as hand luggage, which was a pain in the ass. I did actually ask the bloke "would they actually steal a SLEEPING BAG????" His response...."they will steal ANYTHING".Fair enough.Good job he warned me or I could have been facing some very chilly nights at some point in the future, but, then I spent the rest of my journey caking my pants about wether my luggage was going to be raided when I recieved it on the other side...(not helped by the incident of the illusive backpack that occurred in Rio, if you all set your minds back to that...)
Anyway, I spent a bit of time in duty free, being stalked by an over-zealous assistant that wanted to take everything I picked up to the counter.(do you really think that Im gonna try and steal a packet of winegums, for one...and where am I gonna run to???The only way outta here is back through customs, like trying to escape Alcatraz,or on a plane...so I think you can chill out, mate!!!lol) I just bought a new Samsonite shoulder bag for all my papers and stuff, and a packet of MarsBars for Paul...I know how he loves them so!(I have since learned that he had bought a pack a few days earlier when Mum and him embarked for lima themselves, but by the time I arrived they had all gone!! Those things musnt even touch the sides of his mouth!!!lol.)
You get used to being stalked around shops by security though...and random shop assistants. They must think that Im gonna try and shifty steal something when they arent looking. Its pure discrimination against the scruffy in the highest form, I tell you!!!hahaha. It is rather amusing at times, though.Sometimes I look around to discover that they are literaly looking over my shoulder, directly at the thing in my hand!!haha. Look, if they only knew! I just think, "Look, mate,do you think that its worth me even attempting it, regardless of you sharing your Garlic breath with me? I am carrying a backpack around the world that I can barely fit all my stuff in as it is...WHERE do you think that Im gonna fit a non-stick frying pan!!!!!????"hahaha.
Anyway, the flight itself was relatively uneventful, apart from when I rather embarrissingly started rocking out to the Ramones on the in flight Radio (which I was actually very impressed with, it had some proper decent tunes on it!!) when I obviously forgot where I was for a minute, and was interrupted by the flight attendant tapping me on the shoulder and looking at me like,"hmmm, friek."hahaha.
Also, at the end of the flight, I really lost my cool with some stupid idiot woman.I dont actually know where she was from, but its irrelevant-she was just plain rude and idiotic!!
I was struggling at the end of the flight to maneuvre my Rolly-case out of the overhead compartment, after waiting for AGES for loads of people to pass, and was having a bit of trouble. At one point, I actually dropped it on my head and then was procariously balancing it on one hand as I attempted to get it down safely, without further injuring myself or anyone else, when she comes up behind me and rudely says "Excuse me, Im trying to get past!"
Nice.Real Nice, thanks for your help...and, unfortunately for her, I was feeling particularly hormonal and irate that day, anyway, so I just turned to face her and with my best glare-of-death, and wither up and die tone, I said loudly, "Oh, alright then, because pushing past me, and making me drop this on your head is gonna really get you through customs that much f%&)!%g quicker!!"
(To which she didnt respond.)
I actually felt rather guilty for a second for my outburst, as I am normally a very accepting person, and did consider if it may have been slightly inappropriate, but then I thought, actually, NO! She was well out of order!
Anyway, she was unscathed...I could hear her slagging me off to her husband/"yes dear" personal ass licker, behind me. And I was like, BOTHERED!? She was probably just shocked that somebody said something to her for once, as I assume that people normally let people like that get away with that stuff...but I dont tolerate rudeness!
Anyway, I was picked up from the airport by a really sweet, elderly guy called Victor, who works at the Hostel, which was coinsidental. But, he didnt speak that good English, so I spent the half hour journey breaking the language barrier as he persisted to speak to me in Spanish after I told him that I spoke a little Portuguese...but surprisingly, I actually understood most of what he said, so that was good. However, I did find it rather amusing that he was insistant on "helping me with my Spanish" and started getting me to "repeat after him." But all he was making me repeat was the names of the roads that we were driving along..which wont really do me any good in the long run, me thinks...but, it was sweet of him ,anyway!
The place is actually rather nice, I have my own room, attatched to Mums and Pauls, and it has a tv, private bathroom WITH HOT WATER (its funny, the things that you really appreciate when you are being a fully fledged backpacker...) and a fridge, so thats cool.
I went to bed though as soon as I got in and slept until midday today! After that, we all went on a journey of discovery of the local area...the beach s just down the road(I never associated Peru with beaches for some reason, so I was rather surprised to see this!)and we found a well hidden, but very nice little shopping/resteraunt arcade that we walked around for a while. Its very "Westernised" though, and its almost like being anywhere similar to the trafford centre, but the people are really helpful. We asked one guy where the toilets were, and instead of just telling us, he insisted on walking us all the way to the other side of the complex, right to the door!!
And.Oh.My. I dont think that I have been this excited, since, well, I dont know when...but there is even a Starbucks here, much to my elation!! So, obviously, we HAD to go in, but as nothing is ever straightforward when Im around, I couldnt even manage to order Coffee without a mishap.
I managed to send Pauls Latte flying half way accross the shop floor from the counter, and all over my new Converse, which I was not impressed by! Well, another mission of distruction successfully completed...hehe. And he got another one free, anyway, so not that much damage was done...but it was just typical that it would have to be me that did it!
I was thoroughly extatic after indulging in a light mocha frappuccino though!!Hmmmmm... I sense that I will be making a few trips there whilst I am here, I might as well get it whilst I can, eh??lol.
Anyway, Im off now to go to bed. We are going on some kind of sight seeing tour at 9 in the morning, so I need my beauty sleep!
Hope that you are all ok! I will update you on my antics again soon!!
Loads of love and hugs!!
