Vivs Travels
We headed north towards rainforest and passes through more sugar cane and banana plantations than I have ever seen. We passed through Tully which proudly proclaims itself as 'The wettest place in Australia'...the sun was shining hard and it was 30+ degrees....
We hired a car for 3 days to travel around northern Queensland, Cape Tribulation, Port Douglas and the Atherton Tablelands. It's a shame we didn't have more time because it was stunning up there. We saw loads of wildlife including bats at a bat sancturary - aww! One night we camped in a tropical rainforest - let me tell you that the dawn chorus from a tropical rainforest is both amazing and deafening! The scenery, the rainforest and the beaches are amazing. So this brings me to the next bit of the journey...
Yes this is an amazing place but they have a lot of deadly stuff here...I mean things that can not only give you a good nip but a bit of death too if you're really unlucky - Saltwater crocodiles (it's ok the freshwater ones will just nibble your arm!) and deadly jellyfish in the sea means you can't swim, snakes and nasty spiders in the grass, the casowary bird - it might be endangered but has sharp talons it's not afraid to attack you with...but most annoying of all.. the mosquito...death to all mozzies!! We've been doing quite well - avoiding bananas, taking vitamin B1 supplements and applying loads of repellent - that is until last night when one got in the dorm. I'm now sporting the trendy eyelid and cheek swelling from the little b*****s!! ah well.
