March 29 - Brook - Today was a group vocational day. This morning we visited Professor Bob Elliott founder and medical director of Living Cell Technologies. LCT is a "global pioneer in the field of cell encapsulation and implantation for human therapeutics". We learned the about the many exciting applications of this in medicine, including diabetes, stroke, neuro- degenerative conditions, and wound healing.
Next we went to Cornwall park for "Tea" or as I would say, lunch. After lunch we had a short time to explore One Tree Hill. Apparently up until recently there was one tree on top of One Tree Hill, until someone cut it down.
After lunch we visited the Liggins institute, which is associated with the University of Auckland. The Liggins institute conducts "world class research for a healthy start to life. Here we heard from a number of researchers conducting experiments on various elements of Maternal and child health. We also were able to tour the clinic where children are brought into for clinical trials. Brook and Katie as a demonstration had their body composition and bone density scan completed.
Another full and beautiful day.
