Happy July, everybody!
I couldn't resist using the picture of this couple for this blog. Les & I are certainly not OLD, but we have somewhat drifted into a new paradigm, & this picture seemed somehow appropriate for this blog entry.
We are today marking 6 weeks since we left the US! We have another 6 to go. Instead of buzzing around all over the area, like normal, we have settled into our lovely house & have enjoyed putting our stamp on it. We are getting there slowly. I've spent time painting (a room a week), & gardening (a bush or two a day gets trimmed). Les hauls away all the boxes & garbage I create, as well as the mounds of garden debris I generate. Funny thing, after all the work in the garden, you can't even tell I've been there. That's Mother Nature talking!
About 3 days a week, we dine at home on our terrace, watching the sun set. We often walk down to Sommieres (the town below us) & then hike back up the hill to home in the twilght. On weekends, we find a concert to attend or a museum to visit, which takes us to one of the area towns. In the past 3 weeks, we've been to Montpellier (the Musee Fabre, an exhibit on the golden age of Naples which we found a bit boring), Uzes (a lovely medieval town we've frequented often), & Aigues-Mortes (originally Roman, it was commercialized by medieval salt merchants after Louis IX created it as a launching pad for his Crusade). We go once a week to Nimes (Les to the gym, me to Castorama, a French Home Depot), & once a week to Lunel for groceries & paint supplies. As many 60+ year olds, we've settled into our routine.
But this week, we are off to Scotland, Edinburgh & St. Andrews. We are changing light weight clothing for warm duds to visit this lovely city & to attend one day of the British Open. We are going from an average temperture of 95 degrees to 65 as the high. And we are meeting our Swiss friends Hans & Ruth there. It should be a wonderful change!
To check out the visuals of weeks 4, 5, & 6, go to the picture album with the old couple on the cover.
We hope your summer is going well. For sure, it's going fast, like all summers do!
Love,
Elise & Les

GiGi I know you will LOVE Scotland too! Enjoy!
David and Brenda Waldron Love these blogs and photos of this familiar terrain. That view from your front is superb. Dont forget that easy hike from Villevieille to Roman quarry at Junas:) Nice to have Gordon and Myriam visit us here on the IOP for these two weeks. They return to Sommieres on the 9th and then scramble to wrap up before they depart on their 10 month globe trot.
