I really didn't want to get up this morning, could easily have had a long lie in the comfy white linened bed. 7am alarm it was and it took us a good 40 minutes to repack our rucksacks and tidy the room haha. We had breakfast at the hotel and it really was one of the nicest breakfasts I'd seen.
Then it was goodbyes to the 6 that were finishing their trip in Windhoek. We had no 'newbies' joining so we were down to a group of 15. Our first stop was to a huge westernised shopping mall so we could exchange our Botswana Pula into Namibian Dollar. Adz phoned from New Zealand to discuss our plans for Christmas etc, was great catching up with him and I'm getting excited to see him. Only 16 sleeps!!!!
We headed north further into Namibia, on long straight roads with nothing but wilderness. We didn't pass through any villages or towns after leaving Windhoek and stopped for lunch at the side of the road. Just about everyone slept on the truck this morning after our late night last night I felt much better after a sleep. Since its a new leg of the journey we had new groups so I was back on kitchen duty with Jason and Anna this time.
Then it was 2 hours until we reached our campsite in the middle of nowhere with the Waterberg Plateau only 2km from our tents. It was stunning scenery and after we pitched our tents we went for a walk up towards the top. It was tough going in the heat but definatly worth it. The bar and swimming pool for the campsite was 1 km away from the campsite so we stopped for a cold appletiser looking down on the planes infront of us and the plateau behind us. Very picturesque, my camera will not do this scenery any justice.
Everyone climbed to the top, except from Phoebe and I. It was really hot and humid, and I wasn't feeling 100%, but we had a pretty awesome view from the bar balcony.
Adrian cooked a beef stew tonight in the famous cauldron and Chris made home made rosemary and olive bread, tea was delicious and the beef was so tender. Both were cooked slowly on the coles from the campfire.
We had another crazy thunder and lightening storm tonight but the difference was it didn't stop within an hour like the other nights. It is rainy season now in Botswana but this is unusual for Namibia. I don't mind because it's so hot during the day, the rain cools it down. Well I say cools it down, it's still shorts and tshirt weather.
I'm off to bed now and it's only 9pm. Shattered.com and it's a 5.30 alarm for the morning!
Night folks xxxxx
