We left Tupiza in the afternoon and arrived in Uyuni at about 8pm. The altitude had affected me by making me really tired. Where we were staying are supposed to the best pizzas so we all went to the restaurant. I wasnt feeling hungry at all so shared a large pizza with two other people. I struggled just to eat one slice when it came, I was so tired. I went straight to bed and had a really good nights sleep.
The next day I woke up feeling refreshed and went for breakfast. THat day we were going to the salt flats to take some cool, funny pictures. On the way we stopped at a train graveyard where there were lots of old trains. We could climb on them and look around them. We stopped at a little market on the way before arriving at the salt flats. We saw small pyramids of salt piled up and men shovelling it up into a lorry. After that we drove across the salt flats for about 45minutes to reach Fish island. The salt flats is just a big open space with absolutly nothing for miles. All you can see is white where ever you look with mountains in the distance. Fish island was a big rock island in the middle of the salt. We stopped there for lunch before starting the photos.
For the photos we had brought some props with us. The picture we did was with a dinosaur. Claire the guide layed down on the floor with the toy dinosaur just infront of her and then a few of us stood quite a way back. We pretended to be scared of the dinosaur. As it is just white background it made it seem like the dinosaur was really big and we were really small. We did lots more photos like this, some with bottles, books, pringles tube and even made it look like people were standing on our hands. I enjoyed taking pictures for other people as well. It was a really good, fun couple of hours.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped at the Salt Hotel, a hotel made completly out of salt. We had a quick look around before getting back in the jeep and gouing back to our hotel.
This night I was quite hungry so I order a small peperoni and onion pizza for myself and managed to eat it all. It was delicious. We went to bed quite early as we were up early the next day to go to Potsi.
At 6.30am we all boarded the truck and to our suprise it was snowing! There was a slight problem though the window wipers wouldnt work. So we all went back into the hotel and had a cooked breakfast while Claire and Tony fixed them. At about 8.30 they were working and we set off. As we left the roads we covered in snow and after about half an hour the truck stopped as they had decided to turn around and go back to Uyuni as the roads were too bad. We all had to get out whilst they turned the truck around in the tiny road. Whilst the truck was turned around we had a snowball fight and took lots of photos. When the truck was turned around we got back in the truck and listened to Christmas songs on the way back.
We spent the day just sitting in the hotel chatting at one point we got told off for being too noisy. This also meant we had pizza for tea again. We went to bed hoping we would be able to leave the next day. Thankfully it stopped snowing and we did leave but straight to La Paz instead of Potsi.
