Monday 3rd - Stayed at a road side stop last night called Finke River Rest Area. Nice and quiet with plenty of room. Arrived in Alice Springs mid morning and set up camp at the McDonnell Range Big 4. Stocked up on groceries and had a mechanic look at the Hilux's gearbox as it seems to be playing up a little. On the way to Kings Canyon, we stopped at a lookout to see Mount Connor. This mountain is often mistaken for Uluru on the way into Yulara. Across the road, we climbed a short hill of red sand to look out over Lake Amadeus which is a really big salt lake. Spent a couple of nights at Yulara at Ayers Rock Resort. We went on a guided walk at the bottom of Uluru and learnt lots about why this site is so important to the Aborigines and what they used to do here. The guide also showed us heaps of bush food and other plants that the Aborigines used. Today we drove up the the border of South Australia and Northern Territory. We camped at the border in a road side stop. Great stop which was tarred and had room to be able to park a few vans and camper trailers. Set back a bit from the road so not much noise through the night.
