We got up early and had breakfast at 6am. Sadly, a lot of the food was cold which was a bit odd as breakfast had just opened so you'd have thought that the food would be hot and fresh.
After breakfast we grabbed our bags and caught the KLIA express to the airport for our flight to Penang. Traveling with no checked luggage was something new for us and as it was a domestic flight there was far less hassle than international flights. Our flight left on time and we were on our way to Penang.
On arrival we went to the taxi desk where you pre-pay a fare for a taxi into the city. We got the taxi and asked to be dropped off at Fort Cornwallis. We wandered around the fort and the ramparts and then walked past the Padang and the City and Town Halls and on to Chinatown where we looked for somewhere to have lunch.
After lunch we walked past the Sri Mahamariamman Temple and around to the Eastern and Oriental Hotel. We then walked on past the Church of the Assumption, St.George's Church and the court buildings back down to the waterfront near Fort Cornwallis for a rest and some cool breezes from the sea.
After the rest we decided to walk to the Church Street Pier and then try to catch a taxi back to the airport for our flight back to Kuala Lumpur. With the taxis there is no set fare back to the airport so it is a bit of a gouge. We finally found a taxi and were on our way back to the airport. The driver decided he did not want to pay the airport fees so dropped us off in a nearby car park and we walked the short distance to the airport. We got there a bit early so asked if it were possible to be moved to the earlier flight but it was too late so we had a snack and then waited at the gate for our flight to leave.
The flight left on time and despite some thunderstorms in the area we arrived safely back in KL.
