Flight arrived on time and we collected our bags then followed the signs to the desk to validate our Japan Rail Pass. Surprisingly for Japan the process was manual and the passes were filled out by hand. One of the ladies behind the counter ask for our vouchers saying they would be processed as soon as one of the staff had completed the work they were doing.
We then noticed that our vouchers were forgotten about and people who turned up after us started getting their passes processed. The lady that took our vouchers then realised what was happening and she processed our rail pass for us.
Next we had to buy a ticket for the Narita express into Tokyo at another desk and then boarded the train for the express trip into Tokyo station. As it turned out someone had committed suicide by throwing themselves in front of a train so all trains into Tokyo were delayed and it took forever to get into the city. About an hour late we pulled into Tokyo Station and caught a taxi to our hotel, Mercure Ginza.
Check in was fast and efficient and we headed up to the room to get some sleep.
