Today we got up a little later than yesterday and had breakfast before being picked up for our two hour tour to see the proboscis monkeys and visit a water village.
We were transferred from the hotel to the river where we boarded a boat and headed out to the mangroves to look for proboscis monkeys. Our boat driver and our guide were on the look out as we went to a number of places where the monkeys are usually seen.
Lucky for us the monkeys are around so we saw three different groups although they are very shy and tended to hide when we came by. Still we manages to see them and get some pictures to prove it.
After cruising around for an hour or so we headed back to Bandar Seri Begawan stopping off at one of the water villages on the other side of the Brunei River from the city. We called into a house for morning tea and had some local cakes and some tea. We were able to have a look around the house but it felt a bit awkward wandering around someone's home while they were there watching.
As we made our way back across the river to return to the hotel the rain moved in. We had to do some packing as we were flying out that evening so while it rained we packed as much as we could. Once the rain stopped we walked across to the Royal Regalia Museum which was free and has displays on the Sultan and also displays of all the gifts he has received from foreign dignitaries over the years. We were told there was a good souvenir shop there but it didn't have anything we were after.
After the museum we walked down to the YSHHB shopping centre for some lunch, a visit to the supermarket and to buy a souvenir from one of the shops as we were out of time to find anything and after seeing the airport were not confident of finding anything decent there. We stopped for a coffee on the way back to the hotel.
Back at the hotel we showered, packed and then relaxed until 5.30pm when we went down to check out and get our taxi to the airport.
We had already checked in on-line so we walked straight up to the counter and dropped our bags off and then went to the arrivals hall to eat dinner we knew there was nothing in the departures hall. After dinner we passed through customs and immigration and then boarded our flight back to Melbourne.
