Today we slept in a bit, had breakfast and then set out on a walking tour of BSB. The town is quite small so you could walk from one end to the other in 10 minutes or so. But, as the weather was so hot and humid, a 10 minute walk was hard work. We started by walking down to a local market which we read had some fruit and vegetables as well as some local handicrafts. As we were looking for a souvenir for Brunei we looked around for handicrafts or anything that would make a good souvenir but didn't see anything other than fruit, vegetables and fish (fresh and dried) so we walked on to the riverfront with a view to the water villages which are communities that live in houses on stilts over the river. By then we were already hot so had a cold drink and a rest then went back to the hotel to cool off.
After the rest we walked back down to the other end of town, had lunch then walked past the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque then on to a wooden bridge which connected the mosque to one of the water villages and then on to a road which would take us back to the hotel. We started walking across the bridge and we soon realised that the bridge wasn't all that sturdy and was rocking about and there were missing palings . If we fell off we'd end up waist deep in muddy swamp. As we were walking along (slowly) a local whizzed past and told us which side was best to walk on. We decided the best place to walk was on the nails as there was support underneath so if the wooden paling snapped we would not fall straight down into the swamp. Eventually we made it across to the other side then had to walk up someone's driveway to get to the main road and walk back to the hotel for a swim.
That night we ate at the hotel and discovered the food was quite cheap and not too bad. As we ate a huge thunderstorm hit so after dinner we went out the front of the hotel and watched the storm.
