Previously on turners-on-a-train; waiter in Saint Petersburg claims Krasnoyarsk dirtiest City in Russia. 8 inches of snow forecast for November. And now: The Turner's go to Krasnoyarsk.

We arrived to no snow whatsoever and stunning sunshine. Our second day here felt practically tropical at a nice 6 degrees. The smog we'd been warned about was nowhere to be seen. Everyone told us this was extremely abnormal so we felt truly blessed.

The main draw for us of Krasnoyarsk was that it was close to a National Reserve (similar to a National Park but only limited changes to the landscape allowed). Suffering from FOMO after our attempt to get to the Ice Caves, we made sure to get a guide, or in fact a guide and an interpreter. I'm glad we did, as we really enjoyed chatting about Russian film, travels in South East Asia and what everyday life in Russia was really like (cold). Our guide was a man who lived in the forest as a mountaineer and helped us scramble up a few rocks that we wouldn't have attempted on our own.

Krasnoyarsk is a long city, stretching out along the shore of the Yenisei. The city is definitely of two halves, split by the river. We stayed on the more commercial side, but opposite was a lot of factories and industry. The pollution pumped out from the aluminium smelting, coal power stations and all are visible most of the time, but again we were blessed.
