Well after leaving Franz Josef our next stop was Wanaka but not before walking around mirror lake to get some awesome shots of Mount Cook, it looked stunning! We arrived at Wanaka and we basically just chilled out, played a bit of uno and swam in a freezing cold lake, genarally preparing ourselves for the madness of Queenstown!
Previously on the bus if you were going to do the Nevis bungy you had to sign your life away, I couldn't bring myself to put my name down because the three day build up would just be too much and I didn't think it would be worth it so I was pretty confident that I wasn't going to do a bungy, G'bo however signed up and fair play to him, he's off doing it now, jumping off a 134m high platform for 8.5 seconds of freefall. Nice one. Anyway after we sampled the delights of puzzleworld on the way from Wanaka to Queenstoewn we stopped at the first bungy bridge and watched a film on the secrets of bungy and all that kind of stuff. We were there for a good 2 hours I think and me and Leeroy were watching all these people jumping off the 43m bridge trying to build up the courage to do it ourselves. After a while of phsycing ourselves up we did build up the courage, we went in signed up, paid the money, walked up to the bridge and thats when it hits you, what you're about to do! You have to put your own harness on then sit down right near the edge while they tie your feet up! Me and Leeroy decided to do a tandem jump which is where you are both tied together so after we were all strapped up we had to hobble to the edge with your toes dangling off the edge! Then you have to smile to the camera, the last thing you wanna do and definately don't look down, although I kinda did! Then thats it they count you down from five and your off. We decided previously to jump on three so thats what we did and it was the best feeling ever! I absolutely loved it and so did Leeroy and he doesn't usually go into for things like that, so fair play to him for doing it. It gives you an enormous self esteem rush and makes you think you can take on the world! Love it!
I think the way we did it is the only way I could though I couldn't handle a much bigger build up, we just just literally paid and jumped, just like that! The feeling is very similar to a skydive but the jumping off is in a league of its own! Afterwards we went out with the rest of our bus for some well deserved beers!
