Welcome!
SO, we are in the Mkuze area in Kwazula-Natal. As you may have guessed by the latest images, things are a little slow. We are staying on a game reserve called Abu Madi where they have a pet Porcupine. We have been initiated into the Porcupine Club For The Elite and have the hair to prove it. There is no secret handshake, but we do have a special dance and now we have to eat our meals on all fours from a potjie (a dutch oven). After our initiation, we had a special alien guest from the planet of Matching Footwear who preformed a prayer ceremony in our honor (the mantis shots)...and NO we haven't had shots of our own (as in liquor), it's just the air is MUCh thinner here (which may be obvious from Steve's image-too much helium?)
Truely, we're here for the Ficus trees. There are some, mostly fruitless and slow growing. This is due to the fact that they haven't had rain for twelve years!! Our plans are to stay until Friday then head a bit north to see that the ficus situation is there. So far the only thing we've gained is weight. It's a beautiful area though and our place has stunning views of the dry picturesque valley.
Steve: We overlook Ghost Mountain, the secret burial ground of Zulu chiefs. They are wrapped in the skin of a black ox then carried up the mountain at night and placed in a cave. There are always stories about strange lights, singing and other supernatural happenings on the slopes of the mountain. There area is steeped in history. Many battles fought with Brit, Zulu and Boer.
We'll let you know if we see any ghosts! Until then trudge on....
