Wills and James Road Trip
Day Forty-eight 1.5.05
Our plan to go to the beach today was scuppered by the weather, its turned overcast. We took a walk into the local town, Comil de la Frontera, which is a good three miles away. We had a look around the shops but it was lunchtime and we felt hungry so found a respectable looking restaurant. We sat outside and moments later we asked for a menu. We were informed that we had sat in the area designated for ice cream consumers only and that we could, if we wanted to, have a menu if we swapped our seats to ones inside. We had a look inside and it was dark and gloomy with nobody in there so we went to another restaurant.
At the other restaurant Will did his usual trick of ordering a salad (Russian Salad this time) and asking for tuna on top. This confuses the poor waiter and causes unnecessary complications. I wanted a Paella, but they only do it if two or more want it, then I ordered mixed tapas, again this is for more than one person. The waiter then suggested something which sounded good so we went for it, not really sure what to expect. We did however know what sangria was and ordered a big jug.
When the food arrived it was a selection of bits and pieces including Fried Octopus in oil, Anchovies in oil, Carrots in oil, peppers in oil, onions in oil, strong fish in oil, garlic and potato with oily mayonnaise and a sort of large sliced sausage which was pale pink with a filling which looked like tiny tiny eggs and skin which was transparent with grey veins through it, it was drenched in copious amounts of oil and as you guessed there were a few bits left over when we had finished. We did try a bit of everything and we were pleased because it certainly wasn't stuff we would have ordered.
We walked back along the beach, by this time it was cheering up a bit so we stopped for a few hours and read our books. James even went in the sea (Mainly because he needed a wee.)
