Wills and James Road Trip
Day Thirty-eight 21.4.05
Today we drove to Alvor, we took the scenic route through the Serra de Monchique. The road was particularly picturesque with dramatic scenery around every corner. The line of volcanic mountains protects the Algarve and ensures its mild climate. It does feel warmer here and the sea is definitely calmer.
We arrived at Alvor at mid day and just missed the reception for the campsite. We decided to go down to the beach for lunch and return at 3pm when they reopened. James had grilled sardines and Will had a seafood salad. We're not sure why it took nearly forty minutes but it was worth the wait.
We have noticed the increased number of English people around. It was to be expected. We were also 'entertained' by noisy American children when we were on the beach trying to have a relaxing time. Its still a bit windy but the beach here is lovely. Sorry no pictures today as we were too busy taking it all in.
Once booked into the site and after setting up the awning, which was a bit of an effort driving blunt plastic pegs into sun baked mud, we went to the pool (first campsite with a pool that was open). We were the only ones there which made it extra special. James braved the less than tepid water and had a swim and splash about. Will was a bit more cautious and just topped up his tan.
