Wills and James Road Trip
Day Eighteen 1.04.05
Fortunately April fools day has passed without any unnecessary pranks. To be honest we forgot what date it was and also what day of the week it is. In fact we're still not sure what day of the week it is. It doesn't take long and using the shops in France to determine the day of the week is difficult. They appear to be on Wednesday half day opening everyday.
We had a lie in this morning (until the urge to pee was too great to stay in bed any longer) the trouble with camping is that you can't just nip to the en-suite and jump back into bed. You have to get fully dressed, say hello to the Germans who are already sunbathing and then repeat the process on the way back. By the time you get back the bed has been put away and clearly its time to get up.
We drove to Biarritz which is about 10 kms away and had coffee in a beachside café. William ordered a cappuccino and James a grand crème. When the arrived James could see the disappointment in William's face as his was served in a tall glass cup. It had what looked like a syrupy black coffee in the bottom and about three inches of whipped cream on top. He gave it a good stir and knocked it back.
We have seen a number of British people around (Presumably the proximity to Bilbao) we found out later that there is an important rugby match on soon and they are here for that. We were even asked if that was why we were here!
Biarritz is a lovely beachside town with a mixture of architecture and quite a stylish feel about it. We found a cove and stopped for lunch and spent the afternoon sunbathing. Its very sunny and got quite hot. We had not brought our trunks but James did dip his toes in the water which had a number of hardened swimmers in it. The swimmers in full wet suits were a bit of a giveaway that it was cold and it was. The older swimmers in far too small bikinis (some flesh colour, URGH!) were going in like it was a warm bath. Their swimming caps must make it feel warmer than it is. Or they are so tight that their brains can't function properly!
William has cut James' hair today (James has let the sun get to him!). We brought the clippers, but forgot the attachments, so it is quite short, James was careful to make sure that William made it even as he didn't want to look like he had escaped from an asylum, now he looks like a rugby lout and fits in much better.
James's hair rather short but I think he likes it ,it was bit of a shock when the layers of hair started fall on the floor. We decided to venture towards the pool and found it on the camp site, but it was to green and not ready for use
