Wills and James Road Trip
Day Seventeen 31.03.05
We packed up the tent which was still a bit wet from the rain last night, we wanted to get an earlyish start as we planned to travel to Biarritz. The coastal road looked most direct and more interesting than the motorway. James was driving and William navigating. Both did really well and didn't argue at all.
We stopped for lunch at Mimizan, this a very pretty town and not too far from the beach where we had fresh bagette and cheese by the ocean.
Continuing along the Cote d' Argent we got to Biarritz in good time. Biarritz only has one campsite as far as we could tell and it wasn't open yet so we continued about 10km to St Jean-de-Luz. We have found a lovely site 500m from the beach and on a grassy site. We were a bit worried when we arrived as it appeared to be closed and we had already passed several other closed sites. We were just hanging around the door when a noisy golf cart pulled up with three old people in it, The younger of the three was the owner and before booking us in took us in the cart to view the sites available. It must have looked funny the three of us on the front seat made for two skinny people touring the site. It was nice to have a preview though.
We took a walk down to the beach and it is really lovely, there is a rocky bay with some sand. The weather down here is considerably better and we might stay a few days. It will give us the opportunity to travel into Biarritz and explore the town.
When we got back we cooked sausages. The fat caught light and loads of flames happened and also the fire alarm went off. Fortunately it was all a flash in the grill and no damage was done. We promise to take more care and only eat salad from now on. (yeah right)
