Hey everyone, hope you are all well. We have had a fantastic week in Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks. We left Darwin at 6 in the morning on Monday and drove for about 2 hours to Litchfield where we stopped off at some giant termite mounds and then went swimming at two different plunge pools. In the evening we went on a crocodile cruise in the Mary river wetlands which was amazing, we saw loads of crocs, wallabies, and birds before traveling to our first campsite. The campsite was ok but pretty basic and i wasnt too keen on the bathrooms which were full of frogs, a dutch man in our group managed to stand on one with no shoes on, not nice!! On the second day we drove to Kakadu and went to see some aboriginal rock art which was over 10 000 years old and swimming in more waterfalls. I think our driver Dingo must have been a rally driver in his previous job, he is a mad driver we were travelling at over 100km per hour down dirt tracks it was really bumpy, mum you would have hated it! The third day we went to the twin falls which involved a really long walk over some huge rocks, quite scary for me with short legs but i made it and then in the afternoon we went to gunlom falls, we had to do another steep walk to get to the top which wasnt fun in the heat but was worth it for the view from the top. That night we slept outside in swags which was an experience, tris let me have his mosquito net so i slept ok without having to worry about spiders, snakes, frogs and lizards getting into my sleeping bag, but tris got badly bitten by mosquitos! We cooked tea on the camp fire, which was different, we were meant to be having fajitas but Dingo lost the seasoning so the boys decided to add every type of sauce that we had with us including a whole jar of mango chutney, sweet chilli sauce, mustard, bbq and tomato sauce, honey and strawberry jam, it was surprisingly quite tasty! We all had a go at playing the didgeridoo round the camp fire, i was useless apparently my lips werent loose enough, Tristan was the only one of the 12 of us who managed to play it. After surviving the night we set off for katherine gorge where we did canoeing and swimming in crocodile infested waters. That night we camped near the gorge in tents again thankfully, dont think i could have coped with another night outside!! I got attacked by bees in the shower but apart from that it was a good night. On our last day we went to Edith falls, before travelling back to Darwin, we travelled a total distance of 2000km in 5 days. Today we are having a very relaxed day round the pool we are both pretty tired we had to get up at 5 every day last week!! We have made lots of friends and have had invites to stay with an irish couple in sydney, and to stay on a sheep and cattle station in New Zealand with another couple which will be fun. We will be writing again after we have done our first few days in Cairns. Lots of love Rach and Tris xxxx
