So we left Canberra a truely dull city if we do say!!!! We decided to head up to Byron Bay area of the East coast but do it the innland way. This would take us through the area known as New England!!!
So North we went and we found it to be really hilly, Hooters really struggled on certain bits. We stopped just outside Bathurst in a free camp at the historic town of Sofia which was nice and quiet and right by a river!!! We done a really long drive all the way to Tamworth and had to pay because it was really late and the free camps were really close to the raod and really busy!!!
Tamworth is the centre for the OZ country music and has the most enormous Golden Guitar!!! Everyone wears cowboy hats and the streets are wide and lush. The people seemed really strange and we even saw cows doing barn dances!!! Talking of cows, holy cow theres so many of the tasty beasts around, infact I really have a craving for steak and feel tempted to befriend one, shame all the fences have barbed wires, better get my metal jock strap on!!! This is what the pasta diet can do to you!!! So we bid a fair well to Tamworth, and made the short hop up to Armidale. Armidale was a bit dull but still it allowed us to base ourselves with a free camp and utilise the free internet. We stayed by a lake which was really stunning and we decided to stayed way over the other side to get some peace and quiet!!!! Late at night we awoke to rustling outside the van then it turned to growling and tap, tap, tap on the side, at this stage we both were in dire need of the loo out of shear fright and to our shear dismay it was 500m across the park so we held our legs and prayed for dawn!!!
So we set off on the magical Waterfall way and our first stop was Wollomombi falls we done two walks here, mind you they weren't that strenuous but offer some really great views of the falls, the highest in NSW. They just dropped into a massive gorge covered in trees below, just breathtaking!!!!! We then went to our free camp which was down a 9km dirt road but really worth it. By a fast flowing stream and to our amazment 3 horses which we hadn't expected to be there. The first we new was when Ellie was bent over doing the cleaning (as a good wife should) a loud roar was emited, now I Knew that wasn't me and put it down to the wifes blowhole, then we both turned around to see a large flaring nose at our rear window, horsey, horsey, horsey!!!! I fed it an apple and it marched off, with its cute flarey feet!!!! We settled in nicely and relaxed.
We went to the New England N/P and done another really short walk that gave us really good views over the ranges, really spectacular and felt like we were on top of the world. There was a really bright German guy on his own with no transport and no rucksack sitting at the viewpoint which freaked ellie ou, but he was oinly German and you know what they say about Germans and there little peckers, any danger and i would've insulted him!!!!
We then went to Ebor falls and we saw yet more lovely falls, this time in a two tier formation, really good and we felt very satisfied so we returned to our free camp and settled in for the night...
So we set of and went via Dorigo (no relation to Doritos the crisps). Rather pointless as the Dager falls were a bit poo and so were the falls, so we wasted 60kms worth of petrol but hey it killed some time I guess!!! So we headed up as Will Youngs sing the Long and winding road and ended up at our free camp just south of Casino (capital of Beef and cows, get in there, cows, cows, cows, beef, beef, beef). Very noisey area and had cars pulling in all night, but we were determined not to pay and we were determined to be close to Nimbin as the market is on in the morning!!!
So we left early and drove via Lismore which was really strange and really run down and had some really dodgy people. Saw a car with two men over take us a speed and was determined they were off to Nimbin and sure enaoungh after a really long winded windy journey we arrived at all I can describe as is HELL!!! That car was there too and we parked up. Lots of stoned people, lots of people trying to off load the happy stuff and lots of strange buildings. We decided to use the Internet and got served by astoned hippy lady, our comupter was already being used by 3 stoned cockroaches who made a habit of running over the keyboard, maybe they were trying to spell some thing out to us!!!! So we looked around and went into the Hemp Embassey which was strange, but it had a really funny T-Shirt 'Warn a Brother' HA HA HA!!!!!!! So we left with a comical screach and flew as far away from that little HELL hole known as NIMBIN!!!!!!! Oh the market was really small!!!!
Next stop Ballina
