Finally got to go and see the Australian Open tennis! Was faffing about that much trying to see who was playing every day and night session that at the rate I was going I was going to miss it all. Managed to get tickets for the Saturday 24th Jan night session which was a female 3rd round match between an Australian player named Samantha Stosur and number 4 seed from Russia Elena Dementieva. Was a really good match especially as it was an Australian player. The crowd kept singing Sam songs and one group of people had animal oven gloves on their hands which looked funny.
After that number 1 seed Rafael Nadal was playing Tommy Haas, this was the main match I wanted to see, and it was really good to see Rafa in action. Haas didn't really stand a chance, but he tried his best and it was a good match. So glad I got to go and see it while I was here.
On the Thursday, Fiona Duffie and I went off on our Great Ocean Road trip that we had been planning. We picked up our car on Thursday morning at 9.30am and headed out to our first stop which was Bells Beach. I was the first to drive, and was abit worried at first, but soon got back into the swing of things and didn't get parped once! After we had visited Bells Beach we carried on to our first stop over in Lorne. It is a lovely little town, and we just chilled out on the beach for the rest of that day.
On Friday we drove from Lorne to Apollo Bay where we would be staying that night, staying in a nice hostel not far from the beach which offers free breakfast which is a bonus. After checking in there, we went to the Great Otway Fly tree top walk, which is pretty much what it says on the tin. You walk through a lovely rainforest, and then there are these see through gantries up in the trees. I was walking very quickly along those to say the least! Went up a 45ft tower which was swaying so I didn't stay up there very long! We went back to Apollo Bay and the beach when we got back and then had an early night due to a power cut and we were up early the next morning to see the sunrise.
Got up at 5.45am (shocker!) to see the sunrise on Apollo Bay beach, was an absolutely beautiful sight to see, probably the best (and only) sunrise I have ever seen, and a great memory. We drove from Apollo Bay to Port Campbell that day, not much to see here, so we decided to drive the rest of the Great Ocean Road and go to Warrnambool. We went back to Apollo Bay that night as there wasn't any nice hostels in Port Campbell. Was an absolutely fantastic four days, and had such a great time and saw some lovely sights such as the Twelve Apostles. The beaches are absolutely gorgeous and the drive is very scenic and postcardy!
On Monday night after we got back, me and the two Fiona's went to the Neighbours trivia night. We got to see Karl Kennedy, Sky Mangel and Steve Parker. It was a really good night and the cast are amazing, you can tell Karl loves doing it, he is there every Monday and he really enjoys it. He also sang with his band Waiting Room and wasn't half bad! Had a bit of a drunken conversation with Sky Mangel about why she hadn't released any more music, and found out she was Jason Donovan's half sister! There were also prizes up for grabs, and this guy and girl had to kiss each other for 2 minutes, some other people had to sign the national anthem or Neighbours theme tune, and then there was a dancing contest where this guy nearly stripped off to his birthday suit before the security guard stopped him! A good night was had by all, and was so glad I got to do it!
Will update again when I have more to say! Love to all xxx
