Arrived in Colbinabbin at about 7.45pm, it really is in the back of beyond. We had met a girl on the bus there called Janelle who was also heading there, and the owner of the farm, Damien, came and picked us up from the General Store and took us to the house. We were in the house farthest away from the factory, and the road looked like something out of Wolf Creek! The house was quite run down and old, and there were 10 girls living in it, 4 in one room and 3 in the others.
On the Monday we had to go down and have a meeting with Darrell the factory manager for our induction and that's where it all went wrong. It had kind of crossed my mind that my arms would be a problem for them, but I always thought that they would compromise with me. This was the first time that someone had outright told me I couldn't do it. They took me on a tour of the factory but I think that was only for appearances sake, by the way the guy was talking it seemed that the bigwigs had made up their minds when Damien had first seen me last night. It was very hard to hear that they wouldn't let me work, and to know that I would be split up from Fiona so soon. I just wanted to get out of there that day and was very upset, but there was only one bus a day at 9am.
I was originally booked into a hostel for 3 nights to figure out what to do, but my Dad's cousin Kevin came to the rescue and said I could stay with his friend Errol. He was my saving grace, well they both were. Was so nice to see a familiar and friendly face when I got back to Melbourne. Errol lives in Doncaster which is very bizarre, nothing like the one back home though! The house is absolutely beautiful, I have my own room and a double bed, and Errol has a gorgeous dog called Bella and a cat called Kimby. It was so nice to stay somewhere like this after all the hostels and the dilapidated back of beyond house!
Kevin was off the rest of that week that I arrived, and we did lots of good stuff like go to Mordialloc Beach and see the Dandenong's. Was originally only meant to be staying in Melbourne until the 26th January, when I would be flying up to Darwin to begin my Contiki tour around Australia, but disaster struck again when I went to book the trip, as despite the website saying that there was availability, the trip was fully booked! Was in a right tizz until Errol came to my rescue (again!) and said I could stay with him until the next trip in March!
Glad I am staying here for a couple of months, will mean I can do the Great Ocean Road trip and hopefully the Neighbours trivia night with my other friend Fiona, and I am hoping to go and see the Australian Open tennis some time in the next couple of weeks also. Just hoping that things go smoother now I have put a deposit on my March Contiki trip!
Hope all is well back home xx
