Our trip is over!!!
We left Christchurch and spent the day driving through the Banks Peninsula, which was beautiful. We arrived in a small town called Akaroa, which was a french settlement so everything was in french. We watched the sunset on the end of the pier. We stayed in the van for the first night and it was fery comfortable.
The next day we drove to Lake Tekapo this took a few hours and the mountains got higher the further we went. The lake was very blue, caused by the rock sediment. We walked around here and sat by the lake, it was quite cold though.
We drove towards Mount Cook we stopped for the night 20 minutes away. We were camping amongst huge mountains. It was very cold during the night and when we woke up we found it had snowed over night. All the mountains were now covered in snow. We drove down to Mount Cook but couldnt see the top as the cloud was too low. It was very cold!!! We spent the morning here and then the afternoon making our way back to the east Coast.
We spent last night in Oamaru. In the evening we went to the beach to wait for the penguins to come to their nests. We saw yellow headed penguins which are very rare.
Today we have spent the day at Dunedin and Otago Peninsula. We drove around stopping at beaches and to loomk at the views. We found a blue headed penguin in its nest on one of the beaches, which was lovely as we didnt see any of these the night before. We also saw alot of seals on the rocks.
