From Coral Bay we headed further south with the aim of making it to Steep Point. Steep Point is Australia's most westerly point and the culmination of our odyssey. The fingers of the Shark Bay Peninsular area also house the towns of Useless Loop (a closed Mining town) Denham and the tourist resort of Monkey Mia famous for its dolphins. Across from the peninsular is Dirk Hartog island.
But our initial stop is at the first bay to observe the worlds oldest living life form Stromatolites, these are now only found here and I believe just one other place in the world.
The road into Steep Point is incredibly sandy and a sign warns deflate our tyres to 15 PSI or risk being fined!! We made it to the point OK and spent a very relaxing night camping on a beach nearby.
From here it is back to Dongara to catch up with friends, then Xmas with family and onto Perth to finalise plans for our OS adventure starting Feb 1st. First stop Hawaii!!!
Footnote: Shark Bay, Western Australia is UNESCO World Heritage Listed.
