On leaving Weipa we cut across the track again and took the not recommended Frenchmens track (as it is very rough and Pascoes crossing can be impassable) over to the east coast and one of our most favourite spots Chilli Beach near the Lockhart River Aboriginal Community. Here we met up with Graham and Rachel an English couple, travelling in a vehicle the same as ours.
We set up the porta-bote and Avan and Graham spent a couple of days going out fishing. A shark was caught and a fishing rod completely taken ,but we just loved the spot and the company. We have been invited to stay with Graham and Rachel, when we get to London on our 2005 trip.
Further down the Cape, we headed over to Bathurst Heads where we knew that a couple we had met in Cairns, were going to be camped. It was a pretty rough track in, but an idyllic spot, with huge black lip oysters and mud crabs in abundance. And then the Accident......!!! See the next posting for photos and description.
