We decided to give the Gordon Dam a miss. Our fuel was again running low and with all the driving at high altitude we could not predict how far we could get on what was left in the tank.
So now we hit the main highway into Hobart. An intriguing little place called Salmon Ponds was a slight detour. This was the first salmon and trout hatchery in the southern hemisphere and still supplies many of the fingerlings for the stocked dams around the state. The touristy bit consists of beautiful gardens full of mature exotic trees and ponds full of the different species of salmon and trout, including a pond of albino trout! A small stream runs at the bottom of the garden and it was here we saw our first platypus - twice!!
We drove into Hobart with the main purpose of coming here satisfied - we delivered the computer to a repairer Finally we would be in contact with the world again.
It's a city- although a small one - and so wild or bush camping is not possible. So here we are in a caravan park nicely located right on the Derwent and right next door to MONA.
