After a night of steady rain, we hoped for a clear day, but alas the weather continued the same. Another day, another 4WD track and we headed into the mountains behind the coast. The idea was to do a loop stopping to walk to Hastings Falls about halfway. Two things wrong with that idea: the rain continued and made the track 'interesting' and the Falls, after a very wet walk, were decidedly disappointing. Three hoses over a ledge would have delivered more water despite the rain and the view was crap anyway, all from the wrong angle unless you wanted to walk another hour to the bottom of the falls. Not in this weather… oh and a third thing: the so called loop wasn't. The road just after the falls was a no through road and so we had to retrace our steps.
We didn't retrace them though and took a bigger loop inland ending up back on the coastal highway.
And tonight a campsite in the Freycinet National Park on a superb beach with a wild sea and those fantastic orange-lichened rocks. And lots of friendly pademelons around cadging food from suckers in campers.
