Laura and Sarah's Travels
We couldn't avoid the rain and today we did a half day trip to the Franz Josef glacier. We started off early and got kitted out in our 'waterproof' gear from the tour operator!
During the morning we found out that nothing is waterproof and we were gradually getting wetter and wetter and colder and colder!
It was a long 2km walk to the base of the glacier and then we had to put spike things on our boots for the ice.
Going up at the start was really difficult as we only have short legs. We were glad that we got in the slow group after only a few minutes huffing and puffing up the steep steps!
The views were really good despite the rain although we did get quite close to the edges at times which was a little scary!
Dreaded the thought of climbing down but we turned back early due to the poor weather conditions, which actually suited us fine. It felt like our legs were going to give way on the decent and we were aching alot by the time we got down on sturdy land.
But it was well worth the misery!!
