We couldn't avoid the rain and today we did a half day trip to the Franz Josef glacier. We started off early and got kitted out in our 'waterproof' gear from the tour operator! During the morning we found out that nothing is waterproof and we were gradually getting wetter and wetter and colder and colder! Woke up to rain for the first time in New Zealand and were not impressed. We had planned a walk on the glacier today but changed our minds due to the weather. We did drive up to it and walked to the bottom but the clouds were so low that we hardly saw anything. Got rather soaked. Hoping that it will be better tomorrow so we can do a glacier walk before heading off to Greymouth.
