We were happy to leave behind Bolivia and head into Argentina, better food, better toilet facilities and the people are much nicer (including to look at).
The border crossing took 3.5hrs even though we got there quite early but at least there was shops and restaurants to keep us amused. Still a really long drive day getting us into Salta around 11pm so we went straight into town to a famous steak house. Easily the best steak I've ever eaten!! Some of the group decided to go straight out in town but I headed back to set up camp. We got majorly lost and couldn't find the campsite as it wasn't well sign posted. As it was so late we had the option of setting up our tents or sleeping in a hall. Most people set up their tents but I decided to sleep in the hall and set up the beds of the people who went out. We stayed up playing cards until some of the people started to come home as we were worried they wouldn't find the place either. Once we climbed into our sleeping bags the biggest there was the biggest down pour of rain and massive storm. I was very glad I picked the hall as everyone else's tents were totally soaked inside and out although we did have dogs inside the hall with us as they were seeking shelter as well.
The next morning we were awoken by bus loads of kids arriving!!! They were there for an end of school excursion to use the pool and park equipment on the grounds. No joke there was hundreds of them!! Constantly going in the bathrooms and kitchen which made getting ready near impossible. All the little girls just stood and watched us shower and get changed so in the end we had to shoo them out and have a guard system in place. Not the nicest but luckily I didn't have a hang over or that would've been absolute torture!!!
After hours of putting up with the screaming kids our tour leader moved us to another location. This was much closer to town and had the second largest pool in the Southern Hemisphere.
As it was in the mid thirties we were glad to jump in the pool to cool off and even swam to the other side which is like doing loads of laps. We decided to upgrade to a dorm room and a couple of people went into a 6 person cabana near the pool. Unfortunately when we were out for lunch the cabana got robbed and two day bags were stolen including an SLR camera, iPad and iPhone amongst other things. The cleaner didn't lock the back door when she left so it was an easy target for them. Such a shame but at least no one was hurt and they can claim it back on insurance and everyone will give them their photos so hopefully they will be able to replace some of the photos they lost.
The pool got really packed in the afternoon so we headed into town to do a spot of shopping and cool off in the air conditioning. Finally got some new havianas since I broke my old ones in a club in Cuzco. So many people broke them their as the floor was incredibly sticky.
The next day was 38 degrees so we spent it in the pool again relaxing and had a BBQ for dinner before heading in to town for a few drinks.
We ended up at a club that was having a graduation party so we joined in and was wearing their flat graduation hats. It was bucketing down rain again so when we were waiting for a cab and when we had to walk back to the dorm we were totally soaked so we decided to go for a swim. As we went to climb in a guard whistled on the other side of the pool but we figured by the time they got to us we would've been in and out, not realizing their was a guard on this side as well. We jumped out and Nicole kept saying muchas lo siento (trying to say very sorry but it didn't make sense) and kept repeating it. We realized she had left her thongs behind and she was quite happy to sacrifice them but Laura went back and got them for her. We dodged about 30 toads to get her back to the tent then me back to the dorm. Was such a fun night!!!
