We were so excited when we pulled up to our hostel and saw that there was a pool, a little cabana and lots of places to chill out in the back garden. The hostel had such a great vibe with a handful of other travellers, people playing ping pong and a bar just off the garden. Our dorm again was incredibly hot, the air con didnt work, the fan was almost useless and the window was blocked by signage but this time there was 8 of us in the one room with barely any room to move. That room was literally just to sleep in which was good because then we socialized with everyone in the hostel.
Mendoza is such a pretty town and was my favorite city so far. The streets were lined with trees, beautiful shops and many outdoor restaurants/bars.
The first night we wanted takeaway as it was late and we wanted something fast. The boys went to a hotdog place and waited almost 45mins for a crappy hotdog. Us girls found this amazing little buffet place called Sabina where you pay by weight and they had all types of foods from empanadas, chicken parmas, baked veges, salads etc. It was super tasty and mine only cost $3!!! Very cheap for Argentina.
Back at the hostel we met a couple of guys and film crew who were sponsored by Suzuki to ride motorbikes from London across Europe thru Russia then got a boat to Alaska and have ridden all the way south to Argentina where we saw them but they were continuing all the way down to Ushuaia (the lowest point of mainland in the world). Very interesting and determined guys.
After a few drinks at the hostel we headed out to a club which was across the road called Poraca. Inside was tiny but there was almost as much action outside as they had loads of couches and armchairs lining the street. It was still so hot so when we came home we went for a swim before bed. Such a great way to end the night.
The when we woke up (a couple hours later as it was way too hot to sleep in the dorm) rob, Nicole and I went out to get powerade but ended up walking 45mins to the other end of town for McDonald's (we know how Nicole loves her McDonalds when hungover)!!! When we got there we were utterly disappointed to realize it was still breakfast menu which consisted of ham and cheese toastie or bagel with ham, cheese and with or without egg. That's it!! No Big Macs for Nicole or hot cakes for Rob. We ordered the bagel with egg and grande orange juice which was the smallest thing in the world. The bagel was super doughy and looked uncooked and the egg had lots of shell in it. All in all it was our worst McDonalds experience and it was such a mission to get there!!! We got our powerade on the way home and was much more satisfied.
The siesta in Mendoza lasts from 1-6pm!!! Very annoying when you want to go shopping and escape the hot weather in some air conditioning. We spent the day lazing around the pool which was quite nice.
For dinner the hostel put on a massive BBQ and pretty much everyone at the hostel came along. We met some Argentinean guys who are in a band in Buenos Aires and were in Mendoza to play at a music festival in a couple of days time. Really nice guys so we ended up partying with them all night and listening to their music. They said we could have free tickets to the festival but it was the day after we left so we couldn't go.
Mendoza was an amazing place and would love to get back there another time. Definitely loving Argentina.
