As the weather had been turning for the worst and we couldnt find any rest areas to camp at we decided to head straight to Airlie Beach. Once there we drove around looking for the best place to pull up for the night. We thought it would be best to find shelter due to the weather. We found a carpark next to the lagoon but were soon told be some other campas not to stay there as we would most definately be told to move on. We were told about a place up the road. This was either park among the locals cars on the streets or stay at some sort of car park at the end of the road out of the way. Neither looked too appealing so we decided to go back to the lagoon get something to eat and decide from there. As the pool was ope all the time and there was a lifeguard on til 9pm we decided to go from a swim in the huge outside pool. Afrer getting a quick showere we started to search the streets of Airlie Beach to find a place to stop. We finally opted for the harbour carpark. There were plenty more campas there plus there were ones left from people going on trips so we hoped we wouldnt stand out and be bothered too much. The plan worked so the next day we head off back to the lagoon car park early so we didnt get caught out. We got breakfast and rested there for a bit. The weather was getting worse, stong winds and hevay rain We spent most of the day either on the internet and trying to find out if our boat would be cancelled. We did also finally manage to get our huge amount of photos on to DVD for $15 supposed to $150 we had been oringinally quoted!!! We had also planned to look around some of the shops and the town itself but didnt really have much choice as the weather was so bad. We were drenched the minute we walked out of the campervan!! That evening we stayed just near the lagoon where we had seen anothe campervan the night before. It was an interesting night been blown about and the sound of rain was very loud! As we were due to book into the free nights hostel accommodation we had got with the Whitsundays and Fraser Island package we got there as early as we could in hope to get some sort of normality. As good as the campas are its a nightmare in the rain especially as you have nowhere to dry anything. We got there to find out the double room we had been told we would be able to have we would only get if we paid. Well as you can imagine we werent happy with that so I ended up speaking to the manager who decided after speaking to the woman who had booked it for us and listening to our story which was interesting to say the least gave us a free upgrade. This was just to a double room but a double double room with ensuite and a kitchenette oh and a tv!!!!!. While all of this was going on we also found out we had to wait until tomorrow to find out if our boat was going. We guessed it would be as there was no boats going out that day and some had been cancelled for when we were going out too. After getting settled in out room, washing line in the middle of the room we headed back to the internet to try and catch up with everything again. We spent most of the day wondering round and finding more out about the cyclones and the weather conditions at the moment. It was looking pretty slim that we were going on the boat so we tried to figure out what would be best to do if it was cancelled. Next day we found out earlish it had been cancelled and we decided we would have to not do the Whitsundays at all much to our disappointment as even though the weather might get a bit better it would still be raining and the plan was not to do the Whitsundays in that sort of weather but glorious sunshine. We got our money back, more than we expected which is always good and were thinking about where to go from there. Our decision was made for us as we were told to get our of Airlie Beach as quick as wew could otherwise we would be stuck there as roads were already starting to flood. So thats what we did, we stocked up with plenty of foods and goods and headed up North as far as we could get. They were right about the roads, they were slowly but surely starting to cover with water. We just hoped it got better the further North we got!!!!!!
