Today I had to get up stupidly early and get into Syndey. It was the first time I had worn my backpack and tried to walk. It is now stupidly heavy but manageable once I tighten it up. I do really look like a snail though because its so much bigger than me.
We set off at 7am on the oz intro bus. The bus was only half full but there were 4 other British people on the bus which made me feel better instantly. The guide was named stinger…. Because he was stung by a sting ray… and he was a right laugh even if was 7am.
We stopped for breaky in a fried chicken shop, yes you can imagine the look on my face. But fortunately for me I had already eaten breaky to use up the milk I bought. Then it was onto Canberra!
It was so cool though because in Australia to help combat drivers falling asleep at the wheel they have these free tea and coffee shops…. Being a member of thetea appreciation society I of course had a cup!
My thought on Canberra- It is like a perfect little city. Everyone's lawns are immaculate, no graffiti, no noise, no traffic but most notably no people at all. We were in the city centre having lunch and there was just nobody there ( it was a Saturday afternoon) It is full of just office block in perfect little rows with lovely clean glass it does feel very much like the town on the Jim Carrey film where he is locked in a world and watched I think its called the Truman show. However some interesting facts:
1)In Canberra each house can legally grow 2 marijuana plants
2)All of Australia's porn is made in here
Makes you wonder what gets the aussie MP's through the day!
3) Each embassy in Canberra is themed on its country ( see the Chinese embassy in my piccis)
We visited the Parliament House which is pretty impressive especially, especially when you stand on the roof. However the highlight of the trip was our guide who walked backwards for the whole of the tour just starring at us it was so funny ( you probably had to be there)
We then drove to an alpine village called Thredbo near Mount Kosciuszko where we were to stay for the night. This evening was really full of contradictions. It was 30oC outside yet we were in an alpine ski lodge…. We were backpackers using a jacuzzi….then we ended up doing salsa dancing!
We all tried to get a good nights sleep for out hike tomorrow!
