Thursday, June 6: Kate and I spent the morning together first in the Old City and then at Machane Yehudah, the huge open air shouk (market). There is also the Old City Light Festivali going on at the moment. We saw several of the installations, but did not go at night to see them alight. The "season" has started, and the Old City was packed with tourists in groups of every size. The shouk was also quite busy. We had a delicious lunch at a tiny Indian restaurant, bought the few things we needed, and came home. I promised the girls I would make macaroni and cheese during this visit ( they are so easy to please); so I made it and a frittata for dinner. Kate and Ofer went back to the theatre for Sapir's final performance, I fed the girls, and then Hadassah and Yosef Btzur came over for a visit and late supper. It is always good to be with them. Another late night as I gave Sapir her post theatre meal at 11:30 PM.
Friday, June 7: We had a quiet day. The girls have a short school day on Friday. Ofer took them to school and then did the grocery shopping (lucky Kate) before retrieving the girls from school and going sailing for the afternoon. In the evening Kate, the girls, and I went to Karen and David Bartram's home for Shabbat dinner. Their friends Tzvi and Julie Landau were there with their kids, too. Tzvi is the rabbi who officiated at Kate and Ofer's Jerusalem wedding. David and Karen have three sons. all the kids ate at the coffee table in the living room, and the adults at the dining table. it was a raucous, fun evening. The Bartram's are here on sabbatical from David's job in Leicester, England where he is a university professor of sociology. They are returning to England next week. These couples have been friends for many years, and It is good to be with them and know that Kate has made lasting friendships. We got home around ten o'clock, and everyone was soon asleep.
Saturday, June 8: This week has flown by, and I board a plane for home tonight at 11 PM. We spent the afternoon at Sacher Park. Ofer walked with Savyon and Keshet who rode their bikes, while Kate, Sapir, and I went in the car. The park was filled with families playing and relaxing on Shabbat. We found a picnic table near the playgrounds and enjoyed the day. the girls had fun chasing pigeons and feeding bread scraps to the birds, and playing on the playgrounds while the adults visited. It was the perfect outing to end this excellent week. I will miss being here, but I am anxious to get home to Buzz.
