Discovery College
On Wednesday we had Discovery College from Hong Kong come to Sanpakha school to paint a mural. They did one last year of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations). It is the same idea as the EU only in Asia and will be made up of Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines, Singapore and Cambodia. This year they painted lotus' and dragonflies on a wall and 'welcome' in English and Thai on another. They were both very good! So on the first the morning we had a welcome ceremony where some girls did a traditional dance. Then we made 'Kratongs' (in the festival you light the candle on your kratong, make a wish and the send it down the river. They're made of banana leaves and flowers). The school also set off a couple of massive balloons; they did a dance then too! In the afternoon, half the Discovery College kids taught English and the others painted (this was the same all day Thursday too). So we got a bit of a rest from teaching and just helped out where we could! On Thursday they had a thank you ceremony at the end of the day. The Lahou (hilltribe) kids did a traditional Lahou dance for them. It was really good!
