Montañita is a town on the Ecuador coast known primarily for two things:
1. Decent surf
2. Insane nightlife
The town itself is a small collection of streets packed with tourist shops, eclectic street food stands, and young dreadlocked men selling "happy" brownies. Reggae music blasts at all hours of the day, and at night the streets are packed with gringos and vacationing Ecuadorians looking for a good time. If the clubs aren't your thing, you can grab a cocktail to go from a street vendor, and bring your dance moves to the beach, which they say is even more crowded in the early hours of the morning than during the day.
The beach was nothing compared to the ones we have seen - crowded and littered with cigarette butts and bottle caps (remnants of the previous night's party). Let's just say I don't think people don't come to Montañita for the beautiful beach - but rather the party.
We were staying in a hostel called the Hidden House Hostel, which yes took us way too long to find, the hostel fitted in perfectly with their hippie retreat lifestyle. We were in a shack next to a lake not far from the main area, most of the people here I believe lived there or worked there in replace for keep. A nice hostel but mozzie mad, our bed luckily with a full mozzie net and this time armed with repellent spray. However, leaving Montanita Paul managed to get at least 30 small mozzie bites around his ankles.
