Woke up real early in the custom hotel. Good nights sleep after all the traveling yesterday, and what better way to follow it up than with another day of long traveling. We get the airport shuttle back to LAX then the free bus to Alamo (car rental), where this weird fat man gets us all sorted with paper work and a sat nav. He takes the payment from the wrong card and when he realizes he stares wistfully into the yonder and says "I'm sorry, so very, very sorry. I'm so sorry" Pure wierdo. So we get a KIA SUV and its pretty sweet. What follows is 7.5 hours of endless driving punctuated only by a Jack in the Box burger (delicious) and a couple of garages. Beck drove for an hour too, a first for American roads. We have a nightmare once we get into San Frans weird one way system and rush hour traffic. A slack of knowledge on Alamos returns procedure mean we're 1 min over the returning time for the car and end up having to pay $22 to park it for the night, bummer. Only to be returned the next morning to be parked in the same garage where Alamo store their cars. On another note we learned that a full tank of gas will take you exactly from LA to San Fran, with only 10 miles of gas left, we didn't fill up once, we didn't know what type to use because the guy never told us. So finally we checked into our hotel. Which is clean and central but its no custom hotel! It does have Nob Hills premier gay cinema beside it, so that's just great. We have dinner in an Italian across the road, get some beers and then retire for the night. Tomorrows a big day and Alcatraz awaits!
