Got to Huay Xai on the 19/03, took a six hr bus ride from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong. Stayed a night in Chiang Khong then got the ferry over the Border (Mekong river) to Huay Xai. Huay Xai was really small town only about a mile long. stayed in a guest house called ODP. Met a sound bunch of people there so went on the ale with them my 1st night. Ended up in some dodgy Karaoke club like something off pheonix nights singin madonna and elvis ha ha.
Left for the Gibbon Experience on the 21/03. It was a two hours by normal road(the worst road in UK), another hr off road into the jungle by 4x4. Then a 3 hr trek further into the jungle to reach our tree house. During the 3 hr trek we had to cross about 7 or 8 zip lines over the jungle, some of them where as long as 400m and as high as 150m. On my first go my roller decided to break half way across(poo'd meself) so I had to pull myself across about 50m then wait for the guide to get me a new one. The tree house was unbeleivable, it was about 50m up and you can only reach it by zip line. It was funny watching the guides zip line in with our meals during the 3 days.
On the last day we trekked for about 7 hours crossing the river aba 8 times along the way, it was hard work.
Met some sound people on the gibbon Shaun+Lea (SA)JC(USA)Jamie(Canada)Sarah(Bath)Bernaht+Andrea(Germany), so decided to travel to Luang Prabang with some of them on the slow boat along the Mekong River.
