I have no idea when the date or time changed - probably somewhere around Reykjavik. There was almost nothing to see on the flight over to Helsinki because there was a lot of cloud cover unfortunately. Disembarking in Helsinki was a bit of a gong-show. Because of the mix-up in Edmonton we had to pick up our bags so we could recheck them and get a new boarding pass. BUT when we got there, the Baltic Air desk wasn't going to be open for over an hour, so we had to stow our bags off to the side with a keeper so we'd have time to go find lunch.
Of course, there wasn't anything near the desk in the way of restaurants, so we had to take a quick jaunt over to a different part of the airport. It was nice to be able to walk a bit and stretch the legs. There still wasn't much to choose from and I didn't want to spend too much time looking, so I went to the closest place call 'Picnic'. I ended up with a jalapeno chicken pita. They even put it in a press to warm it up and melt the cheese (and put on some extra sauce). I also got a chai latte (because I'm horribly at sleeping on flights and I needed a bit of caffeine to get me through the next flight) sweetened with honey. Even though it turned out to be really sweet, it was still tasty.
Sophia, Johanna, Emily, Veronika and I decided to get a bit of fresh air after all the recycled stuff we'd been breathing, so we headed outside. It was just an open bit of pavement for people to wait on for their cabs, but over in the corner we found a wood/metal trolley to sit on and eat. Sophia was really happy to have found some cottage cheese for herself. We took a bit of time to tell some jokes, stretch our legs and finish eating before heading back into the airport and walking back to our check-in and bags.
Which is when we found out that the weight of our bags was restricted because we'd had to reclaim our bags because of the mix-up in Edmonton. And on top of that, we were only allowed one carry-on. So we all scrambled to repack things to we fit into one carry-on and that our luggage wasn't too heavy. Luckily we had a few hand weighers that people had brought to check before we went up to the desk.
Finally, once everyone had repacked and was checked in, we went up through security again. After settling at our gate, I went off in search of a currency exchange to get some Lithuanian Lita's. Found that pretty easily down at the far end of the terminal. Checked out a few stores on the way, but spent some time at the gate writing.
