Today we packed up ready to leave London for Montreal, Canada.
We had a big breakfast with our housemate Ingrid and her friend Jane before finalising our packing (where we realised we left our camera bag at one of the pubs we had been at the night before - DOH!). We then jumped on the bus to Boston Manor tube station and from there caught the tube to Heathrow Terminal 4 for our flight.
Our flight left at approx. 3.30 London time and the length of the flight was approx 7 hours. It was a big of a rocky old flight with lots of turbulence. It was only when we arrived in Montreal at about 7 pm that the pilot told us that we had just flown through a huge snowstorm and that we nearly couldn't land at Montreal. Luckily (unlike a lot of other planes that got diverted to other airports that night) we landed safely at Montreal airport. We had to sit on the plane for a long time though as our gate was snowed in and it would take about 30 mins to de-snow it so we taxied to another gate (which also had to be de-snowed).
We were getting ready to get off the plane when an announcement came over the PA system saying to please take our seats again as Canadian officials were coming on board. When they came on the went to a seat a few rows ahead of us and asked a guy in about his 20's lots of questions and when he couldn't produce his passport he was escorted from the plane. How he managed to get on the plane without his passport in the first place we will probably never know but after this little bit of excitment we were finally all allowed off the plane. Unfortunately it took just over an hour to collect our bags as the baggage carts kept getting bogged in the snow. Then we had to wait for just over an hour in the line for a taxi. There were not many cars on the roads because of the amounts of snow and lots of streets were closed off but the snowplows were out in force clearing as many streets as they could.
We were relieved to get to the hotel and couldn't believe how nice it was. I thought perhaps the driver had taken us to the wrong hotel for a minute as we were only staying in a 3 star but this place looked more like a 5 star hotel. When the guy at reception asked if we would like a room with a king-size bed and a view from the 27th floor we couldn't believe our luck. Our room is beautiful and very comfy. If you are ever staying in Montreal we would recommend the Omni. After checking in we headed downstairs for something to eat (it was 9.30 by then). As most places had closed because of the snowstorm we ended up just getting some Chinese from the Zen restaurant downstairs before heading to bed for a well-earned sleep.
